MinimalRemoteDesktop
Screen sharing and input control between owned Windows computers on a LAN
Implemented pilotThe need
Occasional screen sharing and input control between owned computers should not require a separate remote-desktop subscription.
Why it was developed
Provide a small visible host/viewer pair for local Windows LAN use.
How to use it
- Install the .NET 8 SDK on Windows. Run dotnet build MinimalRemoteDesktop.sln.
- Run the RemoteHost project on the controlled computer and RemoteViewer on the controlling computer.
- Set a unique host password, start sharing, then enter the LAN address and matching port/password in the viewer.
- Use only on an authorized LAN. Read ORIGINAL-README.md for port troubleshooting and host visibility controls.
How it can save time or money
Provides basic LAN screen/control access without a mandatory third-party remote-desktop subscription; can reduce walking between nearby machines.
These are potential benefits, not measured savings. Include setup, maintenance, review and local operating costs when comparing your own workflow.
Current scope & limits
An MVP, not a general internet remote-access product. Windows and LAN connectivity are required. Default demonstration password must be replaced. Packaged executables and build folders are excluded.
